OBSESSIVE COMPULSIVE DISORDER

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder has many different subtypes that are strikingly different for each person. Subtypes of OCD include obsessive thoughts related to: germs, exactness, symmetry, right/wrong, perfectionism, morality, harm to self, harm to others, sexuality and sexual acts, pedophilia, relationships and more. If you cannot get distressing thoughts out of your mind despite efforts to do so, an OCD professional can help you determine if this disorder, that can be incredibly debilitating, is something you may be struggling with. While there is no ‘cure’ for OCD, there are very effective treatment options!

ANXIETY

There are many different forms that anxiety can take in one’s life. It is a problem that looks different from person to person. Problems related to anxiety can be focused on general worries (“I can worry about anything and everything”), social fears (“I worry a lot about what others are thinking”), separation (“I worry about being away from a parent or caregiver”), panic attacks (“I worry about the intense physical sensations I might feel in my body”), health anxiety (“I worry a lot about getting sick or someone else getting sick”), phobias (“I worry a lot about one specific thing and go to great lengths to avoid it”). Anxiety can create significant problems in a person’s life and within their family’s life. Often, avoidance behaviors are at the center of anxiety. Families of children with anxiety often describe having to change the rules of their home to get through the day. Exposure-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, with a focus on family involvement when needed, is regarded as the best treatment for anxiety disorders.
